The Foundations History

Established in 2004, as the Galesburg Community and Health Foundation, and on September 1, 2007, we became the Galesburg Community Foundation. Galesburg Community Foundation is a collection of funds and resources that supports the efforts of local people and organization to foster and promote a healthy community.  GCF believes a healthy community focuses its efforts on productive dialogue, collaborative action, team building and unity of purpose.  Residents of such communities bond in the common benefits of a strong education system; abundant physical activity opportunities; adequate, affordable and effective healthcare; and access to the arts.

 

A tax-exempt public charity that allows individuals, businesses, and other non-profit organizations to establish permanent and temporary funds within the confines of one large foundation

• Foundation funds are used to provide grants to non-profit organizations and scholarships to area students
  
  
• The Galesburg Community Foundation serves primarily Knox County, but has granted beyond county borders.
  
  
• In addition, GCF is associated with three local entities and their proceeds go toward the funding of grants to non-profit organizations and health career scholarships. The three entities are: Cottage Corner resale store in downtown Galesburg, Cottage Gift Shop at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and Lifeline Services - a personal emergency response system.
